About Me

Hello family and friends!

Welcome to the Phillips Family blog!  The main reason I started this blog was to keep everyone updated as I battle Cancer.

I’m 34 years old and very recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Gastro-Esopohageal Cancer.  This is a cancer that is normally found in older men, who have gone years with untreated reflux.  I’m young, female , and have never had reflux…so it’s very rare for someone like me to have it.

As I stated, this blog started as a way for me update everyone…but as I type my updates, I’ve realized that I’ve begun to also journal my thoughts and emotions.  I invite you into my world…I only ask that you don’t judge me – I’m only human, after all.

I welcome your comments and look forward to reading them all.

Dear Kathy, We are so happy to finally receive news of your Blog site. Allen and I have both read you story from the beginning and are just amazed at how brave you are and what a beautiful writer you are also.
We are so sorry that you have had to go through all of the treatments but we are praying that your next scan will show much improvement so that you will not have to go through anything more than Chemo.
We feel so helpless being so far away but if there is anything we can do besides pray ( which is pretty powerful) just let us know. Enjoy your 4 weeks of now treatments, rest up and get strong. If you can post pictures of that cute daughter. I know you will enjoy feeling better and having more time with Alison. Love you!

    Hi Kathy,
Thanks for sharing your story with me and the world. You are very brave and inspiring. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Keep going, one treatment/procedure at a time. This too shall pass. Peace, Darla

    Dear Kathleen,

I am a neighbor and friend of your Mom and Dad and had the pleasure of meeting you and your sister’s at the Anniversary party you all hosted for Ed & Carol at Litchfield Country Club.

I was given your blog site by Saundra McNelis and have been very humbled as I’ve read through it. You are such a courageous young lady with a beautiful outlook that most of us wouldn’t be able to have.

I have been going through a difficult time since Dec 15th when I went in for what I thought was going to be a revision to an old knee replacement only to awake from surgery to be told that the old replacement was badly infected and had to be removed and that I would be sent home without a knee and put on IV antibiotics for six weeks. I had a PIC Line placed in my arm before I left the hospital and was released on Dec 22nd. I came home with a knee immobilizer and barely able to put any weight on my left leg. My walker became my best friend for the next three months. I was only home one day when I was readmitted to the Hospital with Congestive Heart Failure and ended up spending Christmas in the hospital. I finally got to have my new knee placed on February 17th and am now on the road to recovery.

Your Mom was so kind and sent me a get well card while unbenounced to me she and your Dad were going through the devastating news of your cancer diagnosis.

I just can’t express what strength you gave me after reading what you have been through and are going to be facing in the days ahead. I am ashamed at how I had my pitty parties asking why this had to happen to me and was I ever going to be able to walk again.

God Bless you Kathy for your trust in the Good Lord and for your courage. You are an inspiration to anyone who should be so fortunate to read your blog and I look forward to following your journey and hope that God will see you through this and that you will be there to go shopping for that Prom Dress for your beautiful daughter.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers and may the Good Lord Bless you and your family.

    Sincerely,
    Dianne Piatt
